Arthur the Bear King - developing a show for the Arts Council Wales
Using the idea that ‘Arth’ means ’Bear’ in Welsh, PuppetSoup developed a touring piece of theatre with the kind support of Abergavenny Theatre, The Arts Council Wales and Llanfoist Primary School.
PuppetSoup worked with Llanfoist school and Abergavenny Community Centre to engage audiences and develop a body of work that considered the community in the first pilot stage of the production
We did this with regular sharings of our work in progress, discussion with the community to get feedback and through developing new and existing artist connections. We did extensive research into the history of Arthur in relation to Wales and used local influences of landscape and heritage to develop the set and style of the puppets.
PuppetSoup then went on to devise a piece of touring theatre that toured North and South Wales through the Arts Council of Wales Night Out Scheme.
Llangenny Hall and The Vale of Gwyrne were very helpful in offering space to develop the work and the project was kindly supported by The Arts Council Wales.
