Create a beautiful handcrafted puppet of your own design from items most people have around their home! In this tabletop inspired puppet making course, you will learn to use everyday items to make a beautifully crafted puppet and develop your making techniques to discover new ways of building puppets.

This innovative puppet making workshop was designed during the coronavirus ‘Lockdown’ to enable people of all abilities to make a puppet at home, without the need of shopping for items or buying expensive equipment. 

​

This course allows you to make a uniquely crafted puppet character suitable for tabletop performances or as a wonderful gift or item to cherish. 

​

Very few specialist tools are required for this workshop and all levels from complete beginners to professional puppet makers are able to participate and achieve the creation of a brilliant puppet character. The only items you will need to have available for this course are a needle and thread, pva glue and scissors. If you have a drill that will be helpful or you will be asked to buy (or use) a simple affordable hand tool (we will give you all the details on booking). You will also be given a list of household recycling to collect ahead of the course starting.

Details of this workshop:

This is a mixed level puppet making course available to experienced puppet makers or to complete beginners. The course can be undertaken at any time of the year to suit your schedule providing that we have availability in ours!

​

Tuition is available on a one to one basis or for groups of adult learners either online or face to face. 

​

The course is suitable for adults over 18 years of age and can be taken in our extensive puppet making workshops in London or near the beautiful Brecon Beacons in Wales or even from the comfort of your own home via online tuition. 

​

We are also able to come to run this workshop at your location if you prefer not to travel.

​

​This course is suitable for those who do not have, or wish not to use, many tools to make a tabletop puppet. We also offer alternative types of tabletop puppet making courses which require some tools and knowledge of how to use them. Please contact us if you are not sure which workshop to book.

What you will learn and do in the table top puppet making course

​

You will learn how to design and make a tabletop puppet including hands, face, feet, working joints and clothing. 

​

You can take the course at your own pace and our timetable is flexible to help you learn.

If you are taking the course face to face, all materials will be provided and if you are taking the course online you will be given a list of items to collect.

​

For face to face courses, tea, coffee, juice and biscuits are available through the day.

You will be tutored in innovative puppet making techniques, sculpture, hand and foot construction, joint creation, the addition of hair, puppet costume design and puppet costume construction.

This is a two day course if you are taking the course face to face at our location. You will have use of a fantastic well equipped bespoke puppet making workshop and individual tuition and attention through each of your course days enabling you to learn intensively and create a beautiful puppet to take home. 

​

If you are taking the course online you will receive 12 hours of one to one tuition broken into 1-2 hour blocks over several days allowing you to work offscreen as well as onscreen in your lessons. You will receive individual attention and extensive advice and guidance through a well planned, fun, friendly and informative lesson. This course is also available for group bookings.
