Learn how to build a fully working tabletop puppet from your own design and to go on to construct this puppet within the workshop and learn the basics of how to manipulate it.

Details of this workshop:

This is a mixed level puppet making course available to experienced puppet makers or to complete beginners. The course can be undertaken at any time of the year to suit your schedule providing that we have availability in ours!

Tuition is available on a one to one basis or for groups of adult learners.  

 

The course is suitable for adults over 18 years of age and can be taken in our extensive puppet making workshops in London or near the beautiful Brecon Beacons in Wales.

We also offer a version of this course for online learners which requires some tools (and knowledge of how to use them safely as we would not be there to supervise you in person) however we do also have an alternative type of tabletop puppet making course available online, which requires very few tools and no prior experience. We are also able to come to run a workshop at your location if you prefer not to travel.

What you will learn and do in the table top puppet making course

You will learn how to design and build a tabletop puppet structure and, depending on how many days or weeks you opt to take the course, you will also learn to design and make the face, hands and clothes.

The average time to make the basic puppet structure if you are having one to one tuition would be three days.  To complete a fully working puppet with face, hands, clothes, shoes  and hair usually takes around two weeks (ten days).

How many days your course lasts is up to you, please discuss your objectives when booking.

You can take the course at your own pace, whether you decide to work intensively and try to finish the puppet structure over your course is up to you.

ALL TOOLS AND MATERIALS ARE PROVIDED

Tea, coffee, juice and biscuits are available through the day.

Depending on how far you get with making your puppet you could also be tutored in sculpture, carving,  hand and foot construction, the addition of hair, puppet costume design and puppet costume construction.

Days usually run from 11am – 6pm with up to an hour’s break for lunch.

You will have use of a fantastic well equipped bespoke puppet making workshop and individual tuition and attention through each of your course days enabling you to learn intensively and create a beautiful puppet to take home.
